The Command Line is the central place where AutoCAD commands, data prompts and user input are display or inserted. It had videos/images you won't see and I've deleted a lot to keep it under 10k chars for reddit. Here is a small document I wrote some time back on my companies internal wiki about AutoCAD basics. I really don't think I can answer that I don't remember having much trouble learning any CAD. I'll usually run PURGE to get rid of any mysterious stuff Knowing AutoCAD is a big benefit when working with SU. I ALWAYS open the DWG in AutoCAD first and check for missing XREF's, hidden layers, blocks, etc. I can usually tell when I get a DWG that was from AutoCAD vs.something else. I receive DWGs just to use as XREF's in AutoCAD from architects and engineers that are always unique in one way or another. The trouble isn't soley with SU being poor at import (I agree it is definitely lacking!). When I'm done tracing I'll delete all those unnecessary tags that SU kept and MOVE them to Untagged, just in case something was amiss (usually is). I think it imports as a group by default, so I give that group a tag name and turn it on/off as needed to reference the original lines and whatever other info might be on there. ![]() dwg lines in sketchup?Īpologies for a repeat question, I searched briefly but I'm sure this question has popped up before.Įxactly. I thank you and greatly appreciate any thoughts on this, what are your favorite and fastest methods of getting the ball rolling with. I really need to speed up this process and would be happy to purchase any plugin or software that might exist out there that I've not come across yet. ![]() (I'm a sketchup user, very little autocad experience and these plans are handed off to me) I suspect I probably need to be doing some things in Autocad before I export the dwg lines? I've used Makeface, Layflat, inspect and close all edgegaps, fredoscale box scaling, ![]() It's too time consuming, so I may need to find another option to get clean lines in sketchup, that's why I'm here asking :) Lately I've tried the following methods, and they get me there, but it's time consuming. I have known for many years the difficulty that one can encounter when doing this process since a lot of times the imports have issues, and linework doesn't always transition apples to apples into sketchup.īefore I always slogged through, probably going the long route to make faces, in ways such as retracing lines, making rectagles, wrestling it so to speak, I think you know what I mean. dwg form into sketchup to begin creating 3D isometric geometry and modeling the plans/structures. Often for work now I am needing to import CAD lines in. What is your preferred method/workflow for getting clean and quick Faces in sketchup from importing Autocad.
